In short, I suppose what I'm trying to say is that, in my view, God wants us to Love each other (Which would also be Loving God) instead of being so preoccupied with fearing Him. Such is why He doesn't go to each person saying "Hey, I'm God, nice seeing you." then whoosh off to be with his Heavenly pals.

You realize that until Vatican II, most priests were telling those in the parish that God is a very harsh judge, right?

So essentially, God's personality apparently changed when the Pope said it did.

Well, I see what he's trying to do. I'm a Christian, I check girls out, I steal stuff(Like gnomes, but put them back later), and God won't hold that against me. He knows we're imperfect. He has known that since Adam and Eve. God forgives everything you do, even mortal sins. He is omnipotent, and all mercy.

They also didn't write the Bible in vernacular until the late 1400s when they started printing it that way, if I recall correctly. They also sold indulgences to people, claiming it would get them to Heaven faster! I don't see your point. My post had nothing to do with the Catholic Church, or even Catholicism in general. :/

Notice how Christianity itself goes against science... stuff that's been proven... If the bible had been written now, it wouldn't go against science. The bible was written in a time when science was non existent. That's why you don't find dinosaurs in the bible, nothing of inbreeding and how that causes problems in people (Adam and Eve creating this population), and also nothing of atoms. Jesus might have been just an average Joe. Jesus was one of the most popular names at the time. Jesus could have been just a figure in society. But also realize that the fundamental ideals in religion are all the same. The golden rule especially. Religion itself is just a way to keep honest people honest and give them hope in something larger then themselves.
