The server is hosted on the same server as blockland. If he took down aot, then there would be unnecessary server space he'd be paying for. Therefore, it's better if he keeps it up. Your logic doesn't work.

he could just use more of it for blockland or pay for less server space and save money.

If he doesn't need it, why take down a game he made to save it? I can't imagine you genuinely want to help Badspot save money so much as you want to spite a couple people.
