Author Topic: Randomly banned from the Return to Blockland IRC (Read 3087 times)

so I was playing blockland with a few friends, and asked over the global IRC if anyone wanted to help me with my half life TDM. then, I was, in thirty seconds, given 3 warnings, then banned, during which I hadnt even posted anything. the ban reason: Caps overuse. and I hadnt even used a single freakin capital.
WTF?!

I do not have screens. my controls were reset to default, so I couldnt take any.

He was apparently banned for excessive caps, from one message.

Though we have no proof aside from the fact that he's banned.

ive had somebody spam the same message once every ten seconds for thirty minutes, and he didnt get banned.

Then he most likely did actually talk in caps or it's a faulty function by blockbot

I was banned once for saying "HI" in caps.

Wouldn't be the first time BlockBot broke.
Though, IRC is a bad chat system anyways. RTB Connect is way better.

I saw the whole thing while I was browsing IRC when I see say a random message with 1 or 2 caps in it and you got banned for no reason correct me if I'm wrong.

you were not randomly banned. you were spontaneously banned.

randomly implies you were picked from a group of other possible ban'ees with just as much chance as you, without any control.
however you were not.

Blockbot is very flawed and I'm pretty sure Ephi once said he was never going to do anything about it.

The RTB IRC is notorious for being really twitchy with its ban system. If you just type normally you can probably save yourself the trouble though. :I
