The gamma cannon hummed in my hands, glowing with a light radioactive aura. the energy was still building up inside it, but the magnetic field casters had been warmed up before the experiment. this was to be the first test of the gamma cannon, an energy weapon that fired an intensely focused beam of gamma radiation. we had tried to use it before, but various flaws had set the science team and I back until today. the cannon made a loud dinging sound as a light on the screen came on, signifing the gun now held sufficent radiation buildup to be fired. I pulled the trigger and pressed the "confirm fire" indicator on the targetting screen. a loud whine pirced the air as a beam of nearly invisble gamma radiation, held in line by a hollow cylindrical magnetic forcefield, shot forward to hit the manniquen. after about twenty seconds, the manniquen was a half melted lump of radioactive slag. I shut down the cannon, took of my lead vest, and gave an affermitave thumbs up to the security camera on the far wall.
When I arrived in the testing booth, I was greeted by rounds of appluase and cheering. we had just ran a succesful test of something we had been working on for three months now. wait untill the guys back at space station fifteen hear about this. theyre gonna be green with envy and jelousy.
