How do you open the console in GMod? I tried the ~ key but nothing it did.

Check in your controls for the key for it.

You have to go into the keyboard section of options, and toggle "Enable Developer Console (~)" on.

Do people not use google anymore?

Go to Options > Keyboard > Advanced > and check the developer console option. Now you can use ~ to open the console.
