Author Topic: Close, but no Cigar!  (Read 4245 times)

I was at WalMart and I saw a woman wearing a black t-shirt with the text "DON'T GO TO CHURCH" printed on it.

I have lived in Florida for over a decade now and that was the first time I've seen anyone with any sort of anti-religion t-shirt/bumper sticker/anything. So, I had to ask her: "Why do you wear that?"

She smiled and said "Because God wants us to read the bible in our own way and find faith in Him on our own terms, not because some Preacher-man said to."

I grinned, said "Close, but no cigar!" and walked off. She looked confused as stuff.

Explain. :3

How did you know there was no cigar?

Explain. :3
I figured she was just an Atheist. It was a complete inside joke. I was hoping she was just totally devoid of religion.

Aww, I was hoping for a complex explanation of why her explanation was wrong.
That works though.

She could have had a cigar in her pocket.

Some christians are such hypocrites  :cookieMonster:

This. For every religion discussion on the forums, ever.

Also, lol'd at preacher-man.

I don't really see how Iban was "prying into people's beliefs"
From what I've read he saw someone with a shirt that implied secular thought. Being interested in seeing something apparently that rare he asked why she wore that.
It's really just a question towards someone he even considered to be secular as a possibility. When he discovered otherwise, he made an ambiguous remark not meant to really convey anything to her and walked away. Can someone explain to me how this is prying and arrogant and horrible blah blah etc?

It's not exactly prying when they wear a loving t-shirt exclaiming something controversial, now is it, jerk-off?

I didn't see a woman with rosary beads and say "A CATHOLIC? IN FLORIDA!? YOU CHILD MOLESTER!"

well she didn't say anything now did she

she was wearing a t-shirt

I assure you that if I wore a T-Shirt that said "VOTE DEMOCRATIC" I would be shot.

I'm starting to believe that there was no cigar in the first place.
