I've never had a cat run away, but back when I lived in Mississippi my mom would take care of strays. Then we moved and got my current cat, who's yet to run away.

Well, I hope your cat comes back soon ;~; It's sad when someone loses a pet TT^TT

My first cat ran away.
Since we live in the forest though all I can think is she was eaten.

Just keep contacting your local SPCA and visit to check the cat kennels.
You might see him. Placing some posters would help a bit too.
Thing is though, I doubt anyone would of caught him because cats are elusive.

Put out some food and water, and a cardboard box with a blanket just in case he's nearby.

lol here is the deal. cats dont "run away"
they would return for food. if they dont return within the day, they either are lost (not likely), found food elsewhere, or got killed.

in any case, im glad its (probably) dead. people who allow cats to wander the neighborhood are richards and dont deserve pets.

Not necessarily true, my cat took a vacation for 3 days and came back like nothin happened.
