Author Topic: Converting Hammer  (Read 8080 times)

.ter and .mis have to be made ingame
a .map can be coverted into a .dif witch can be placed into a .mis

So what your saying is I should be creating a .dif (which I already know) and than opening it in the mission editor? or converting it into a .mis somehow?
anyway, that part aside, i'm still not getting a .dif, but only a
.max
.rmx
.map
and some Microsoft thing...
Maybe the .dif goes in a different directory which I am unaware of?

ok listen
export a map

open it in Quark
export a .dif
open BLR
go into a mission
press F11
click intiors....and find your .dif

place it in the mission

ok listen
export a map

open it in Quark - I get an error saying "error at line 11"
export a .dif - how?
open BLR
go into a mission
press F11 - I don't have the mission editor set up that way
click intiors....and find your .dif - wah?

place it in the mission -wah?

Mind explaining those? I also have no experience in quark whatsoever..
making Gmod maps is so much different than Retail..I feel sad :(
Thank you for you help so far.

Don't listen to that idiot.

If you setup the exporter correctly, you should find a .dif file in the same directory to which you exported to.

Well, I found out that if you use different Map2dif files, different results come up, so if you (Resonance) could please give me a link to the one you use, that would be great.

The reason I use the DEBUG version, was because it was the only one I could find that exported .difs that would work in
Return to Blockland.

Whenever I try using that one it gives me an error and says it can't find the textures
Actually, it seems to work fine after I put the textures I used in the folder that I want the output conversion/exportation to go, problem is, after it finishes I still don't see a .dif
OOOOOOOOH LOL! I get it!
god I feel dumb right now.
Anyway thank you all for helping! :D

Ok, actually, what exactly do I do with this .dif?

Copy the .dif and all of the textures (256x256 or 512x512 in JPEG format) to their own folder, then put it in the /base/data/interiors directory.

alright I got it figured out, and you don't actually need to copy the textures, just the .dif
Awesome, now though, I need a suggestion from someone on which map should I make...
any ideas?

What do you mean you don't need the textures? Take a look in the interiors folder at the bedroom model. It includes all of its textures. I'm pretty sure you need to include the textures, unless you used textures that are already in the game.

yeah that was the case, any ideas on a map though?

Start of with something easy like a platform, a dock or a bunker that is a feature in a map, or if you've mapped before or are more confident in your abilities, then try one of these:

Inside a briefcase, would include pouches for storage and assorted folders and papers on the ground.

A kitchen sink. You don't need to include the rest of the room, just make it a high level of detail sink, with pipes and a garbage disposal and stuff you can wander through.

A garage or attic. Both of these have been made before, but it doesn't hurt to have them remade.

Inside a glove compartment.

Inside a volcano.

Mars base.

If you don't like any of those, I can make a list of hundreds.

Yes please. (being serious)
I'm not a really imaginative person and kinda hard for me to come up with ideas on my own.
I was thinking of doing the Simpsons house but want to get some practice first.
I haven't mapped since around last year.
