Author Topic: What's a good media player than iTunes?  (Read 1007 times)

I need something that can:

  • iPod Device Support
  • Notify me what song is on
  • Not WinAmp
  • Looks pleasant to the eye

I like iTunes, but I really want something that can do the notifier, so when I am in a fullscreen game, I know what song is on.

Notifiers and full-screen games do not mix.

A notifier?  I have never heard of one that can do that, sorry. :/

That's the thing. I am sooo used to Ubuntu or some distro, it pops up with what song is on.

forget Windows D:

WMP.
  • Looks pleasant to the eye
imo WMP looks suckish to eyes

also what i do is this:
i've got this nice little speaker thing:

...and i play my iPod from there while gaming.

and although it doesn't show it in the picture, it DOES charge.

If you use the thing where it puts it in the right of the task bar, you don't have to worry about how good it looks.

Oh yeah, forgot that if you put it in the taskbar it gives you a notification of what song's playing. But I still don't think it will show up in a full-screen game.

What you could do is figure stuff out and get a backwards headphone splitter and hook it up to your computer and iPod.

Use
WMP.
And then play your games in a high-resolution windowed mode.
Works for me.

The only thing I could say is that Zune has a function when you hover your mouse over it to show you what is playing in XP and Vista.  In 7 it has a floating information box.  Its really unobtrusive and awesome.

See?

Edit:  I forgot to mention that no matter where the focus of the windows is, it stays in the front.

Seems like Songbird actually has a notifier, but the iPod support extension is outdated.

I heard Songbird is excellent.
