Author Topic: Is my RAM defective?  (Read 982 times)

I have a 64-bit Win7 OS with 4Gigs of RAM installed, and I have been getting blue screens randomly at times due to the Memory Management error. I rarely ever go over 50% RAM usage, so I figured it must be a hardware failure or something similar.

When I try to run Prime 95 to check, my computer freezes literally within seconds (No BSOD). This tells me something is very wrong, and should be checked.

Can anyone help me determine what the problem might be?

Sounds very much like a RAM issue then.

If you can, test your PC out with other RAM sticks.

You can just remove 1 stick at a time and rerun it and if it freezes on one then that is the bad one.

Er, yeah.
Do this first before doing what I said.

I still have a warranty from the place I got it built at, don't want to break it by going into the computer.

The RAM they gave me is suppose to be some slightly higher speed stuff, not sure about the quality.

I also think they gave me 2 sicks of 2GB RAM, so it might be that 1 is defective, and the memory management error might pop up when going over 50% total RAM usage. I will test this.

Try taking out one stick at a time to find which one is faulty.

Most RAM manufacturers are more than willing to replace faulty RAM.  I had a faulty 2GB stick out of my 3x2GB pack, and Corsair quickly replaced it.  Runs great now.

If you have warranty why don't you call the place you've built it at..?

Problem, Warranty makers?

Um, I don't wanna have to unless I know there is a definite problem, and I would also have to do some file backup also that takes forever.

Also:

Its's over 50% as shown, so that means that both sticks have some function, but they might still have quite some instability. I've had it crash on many less tabs before, I'm not sure what the problem is now. Also, 55% usage as we speak. I also slightly suspect Power supply failures, because the computer makes some static noises when it crashes after running for a while, still not sure though.

Warranty is not that simple as you think... Not fingerprints or anything.

There's a glue, thingy, dunno, if they see it's broken it means you accessed it.

I just remembered I had a similar problem after you mentioned the last post.

By any chance when the error happens you have a ugly smell coming from the computer?

Yeah, theres stickers covering right were you open the case for mine.

You're a idiot.
Boo hoo, no stupid kid at geek squad to pretend to fix your computer for a couple hundred bucks.

Seriously, if you can diagnose a RAM problem you can be fine with not having warranty.

Don't pretend like you know everything please.

And you are even more of a idiot in my eyes now...

You suggested to check the RAM cards, but he said he has warranty and does not want to lose it.

However instead of flaming eachother's stuff let's better help Dodger before his problem gets worse like it always does..

And you are even more of a idiot in my eyes now...
Oh no!

Not YOUR eyes!

Excuse me, I need to go cry now.

Come on guys, get back on topic.

Also, thanks to this, when my MP3 was charging off my computer, it shorted out and won't turn back on :c
