Author Topic: why do you believe in god?  (Read 19294 times)

I say this as a totally impartial reader.
Looking though the topic, the religious people in general act more respectfull than the atheists.
Think that says something about religion, right or wrong, a big side effect is often manners and respect for others.

It doesn't bother me that people are religious, and I don't hate their religion. But he was trying to give me a million reasons to believe in god so I said, in self defense, a counter to all of those.

what were you defending yourself from?

different views?

He was trying to convert me to Christian.

IMO all the "arguments" against evolution I have ever heard culminate into either

" look i want to believe in whatever i want to believe in even though it's flawed in your opinion so forget off"

or

"it happened JUST BECAUSE it happened, stop being silly"

He was trying to convert me to Christian.
because defending why you're christian totally means you're trying to convert people

Let's assume that God exists. Now, who created God?

That's why I call bullstuff.
How exactly do you believe the universe came into existence?

when you think about both sides both end in who made who and who made that who made who

perhaps the real awnser is beyond human thought process

Agree it hurts my brain to think about that.

I live in a household where atheists are just as bad a terrorists.

And since it's illegal to form my own opinion, my parents must make sure that I don't break the law by speaking for my own judgement.

Maybe because religious people are too damn stubborn and ignorant and as an atheist it can start to get on your nerves.

I hate the arguments revolving around how the universe came into existence. Eventually, we will know exactly how it happened and you can all suck a richard. But in the meantime we are not yet at the point scientifically to know for sure how things went down, this does NOT mean "god did it" and you are in no position to use it as an argument.

If god created the universe and everything in it and has a plan for everyone and everything etc, why does organized religion cater only to humanity, and furthermore why does organized religion cater only to the believers of their specific "god". There is supposed to be only one god, right? So why are there so many religions out there claiming they are right and everyone else is wrong. I'm sure if god really wanted to make his presence known N years ago, he wouldn't have forgeted up that badly--being an all powerful all seeing being and all.

If god loves everyone and everything, why are people who don't believe in him (to be more precise, people who do not believe in the specific religion they are discussing) damned to hell and eternal suffering. It's contradictory.

If god really did create everything, why is there so much scientific backing for natural processes in which life, the planets, the stars, and everything in between can be created without a higher power having any input.

The case of religion is a case of ignorance. Typically intelligence correlates with atheism very well, and there's a reason for it.

I believe in him, because I trust in him, and his son. It gives me hope that I will go to a good place.
I have read the bible, and I think it's enough proof he exists, as it might not for others.
I believe that there is a better life after death to those who follow Him.
If someone doesn't believe in him, it's alright for me. As long as they don't insult others for having a religion. :o

there is no such thing as a smart religious person?

God is a story, there is no way that someone had a vision telling them there is a god, they were just high as forget.
