I hate the singing style with the wavering voice, or whatever it's called.

I have an instrumental of Protest the Hero :D it's much better than with vocals.

Melodic Death Metal is where it's at.

Yes. You do. Tph MCMXCIX is the most epic hardcore melodic death metal band ever. THEIR MUSIC MAKES SENSE WHILE ORHER BANDS JUST SLUR stuff TOGETHER.

Modern power metal blows. It's all about mashing out as many notes as possible, it sounds like stuff.

I find it to be a watered down version of Dethklok.
