Author Topic: DarkStride's Terrain Builds [Image Heavy]  (Read 1742 times)

So recently I and my good friends have been building some rather experimental builds. From this test I have learned a lot about terrain builds and am working on one last project using this knowledge. That will be for another day, anyway onto the pictures of the experiments.

Warehouse CTF

So this is the inside of the one of the warehouses, unfortunately I got lazy and duplicated it, for the opposite base.

This next spot is the choke point. It was a small little tunnel leading to opposing sides base

This is the neutral Helicopter point. Any team could take this and transfer players over the roof of the warehouse and drop through the window and try to get the flag

Overview of the whole area

Valley TDM/CTF

This was the encampment for the riot control. Players would parachute into this base and be able to get to higher places quicker than the opposing force

This is the warehouse re-creation for better use of this map. We liked it so we used it again.

Around the spiral [you can view in the overview image below] we set up small broken houses that were good for ambushing or using as cover for vehicles

Both bases have some sort of cave network that runs into the middle on the playing field. Very prone to ambushes..

Both bases also had a high point in the map where snipers could quickly see opposing forces leaving bases or crawling out of tunnels

And the overview

Some RPG Thing

So this last thing isn't really finished, but works. Players would select a job and gather one of 3 materials. Wood, ore, or fish. Each area had a had different types of those that would have a certain level. For instance, the forest had level 0 materials making that spot the start. Players would work faster and they leveled seeing as how damage was based on what level they were, and they could sell for gold that, when i get around to it would be able to purchase weapons that players could duel with in arenas, as well as let players bid on who they think will win. Anyway onto some pictures

This is the forest part. The normal brick trees are the ones that get cut down. This is the level 0 area.

Next is the plain desert. It had level 3 materials

Next was the swamp. This was my favorite area and I would rather be there instead of anything else. Mixture of level 3/6 materials

Even the water was gross as stuff.

This is the WIP town. Has save and load. Along with some fancy houses. again wasn't finished so it's bare.

This is the snowy pass mountain thing. This was the most annoying part. Making it look snowy but not have a pass from other points was hard. Turned out fairly nice though

Overview yay

Please do keep in mind that these were experiments and that I probably won't change what is on them, or probably won't even finish the RPG. If you have any suggestions on how I can get better at this terrain stuff, share your info. Feel free to give constructive criticism and rate if you so choose. I had fun with these and I feel you guys should too with the TDM's that is.

You can get the saves here. Just extract it and drag them into slate saves

Thanks!

These looks really nice, Why don't you ever host any?

I actually did quite a bit but I have come to find out that my Internet connection is pretty stuffty and everyone starts to lag when there is about 10 people on at once. So the best solution was to release the save so that someone with better hosting capabilities could use them if they so choose. I'll try to host for tomorrow but for now ima go to sleep.

These terrains are actually pretty cool! The DM looks interesting, with alot of different opportunities to attack from etc.
When I saw the last picture, I immediately thought: "Someone's going to make an RP out of this" :P

It looks like you got lazy in some places but otherwise I think it all looks rather nice. The warehouse looks really cool, I like the crane.

Thanks. And yes I know I got lazy.

I'm going to be honest, I think people shouldn only use cubescape if they plan on replacing it with other bricks and ramps and stuff.

Hmm, so it doesn't just look like it's built on top of everything? Instead is worked into the area?

So image heavy there are no pics at all.

I like the houses in the third-last picture, the exterior there is brilliant.

So image heavy there are no pics at all.
Like you can't see them or what?

Interesting, but the scape is very plain for the TDM and very simple for the RP. Add some different stuff for the RP, and for the TDM, even more trees would be fine.
