Author Topic: Help with Portal  (Read 458 times)

So, We have 2 computers, 1 is my parent's and the other is mine. I downloaded Portal onto their computer, and it works. On my computer, I don't have internet access, so I have to download things off of their computer and put them on mine. I wanted to play Portal on mine, so I copied the "steamapps" folder onto my pc and restarted Steam. Portal shows up in my favorites, but it says purchase instead of play, and none of that backgrounds and stuff is there. So, do I have to say, make a Steam folder on the memory drive and install Portal to that, then copy the folders to that, and make sure not to override anything I need for offline mode, like I did with Deus Ex, or is there another way not involving getting internet, because I can't.

Steam has to verify that your account has purchased Portal.
Without internet access it can't do that.

With Deus Ex, I got it onto my computer, but it came out of offline mode, so I had to use a Mobile internet stick. I can't do that now though.

Steam is built to not allow you to access the games if it has no internet access.  Simply put.

You have to have accessed the internet at least once with Steam and set it up to play games offline at least once before you can.

I think I figured it out, but I don't know.

copy the whole steam folder
