Author Topic: Using a hard drive as primary.  (Read 770 times)

I need to know how to set a secondary hard drive as my default/primary one.
If you know how, please tell me.

Try to swap slots with the main one.

No.

Do it in your BIOS. just look around and you'll see an option, it's different for every manufacturer

Tom

Install an OS on it and put it first in your BIOS boot list.

If it's a USB drive note that some computers/drives do not support booting from USB.

To make it a primary it has to be the disk being used by your OS.

As far as I know you can't copy paste an operating system over a hard drive.

There's this wonderful thing called a Binary input-output system.

Well, I don't quite have the money for a new OS.
So, should I use Ubuntu?
Seeing as I wont be playing games on the computer at hand, would there be any other problems?

As far as I am aware, it's installed in the computer just as its current primary one.
I do know that it isn't USB, though.

Ubuntu is unstable as heck.

What else would you suggest?
First off, why are you wanting to do this and how badly do you need to do it?

You could save up to get an OS, I would seriously discourage getting Ubuntu as a main OS.

I've had ubuntu as my main OS for 2 years now and I've never had a problem with stability, or anything for that matter.

You're doin it wrong

I guess Ubuntu just traumatized me by almost completely screwing up my boot sequence entirely. :c

edit:
It was probably my own fault. D:

The current hard drive's capacity is 13GB.
I'm trying to switch to the 40GB one.
Which still sucks, but it's better.
