Author Topic: ID overload. What will happen then?  (Read 3169 times)

What do you think Badspot will to do to combat an ID overload? (e.g. Blockland starts gaining millions of players and ID's reach the millions)

Maybe he might make a new system for identification.

I have a feeling Blockland will die before we reach the millions...

I doubt there will be an "ID Overload" because the server Badspot is running can probably handle many millions of these short, numerical values.

Wishfull thinking.

Nobody wants games like Blockland anymore, just generic shoot 'em ups.

If that happened Badspot could just add another digit to the ID counter and we would be set from then on unless 10 million end up joining, and I think Steam doesn't even have that many users.

Isn't the highest 99999?

Look in the console when you start up single player.

Steam users.

Badspot will have plenty of warning before he has to add another digit counter

999,999

notice the placement of the comma

We'll never have to worry about this.  Blockland probably won't even get 100k ids before it dies.

Way to be so hopeful.

Would adding another digit counter even be a problem at all?

I doubt we'll ever get an ID overload.

Blockland 2012. Hue.

Hundreds, thousands, millions of users joining and spamming servers to no end.

Not that I believe in that.
