Actually they didn't crash the servers. Sony shut the servers down by themselves in order to rewrite their entire security system.

I'm still pretty sure anonymous did it. You shouldn't believe any immature hacker when they say they didn't hack something, especially when they were doing DDoS attacks during the same month, along with calling Sony incompetent.
