I prefer not having the game slow to a crawl after a certain amount of time because there are literally no resources left on the map. That's just a stupid gameplay mechanic. I can't even think of another RTS with resources that actually run out except for maybe Age of Empires, and they give you way more to mine than you could ever use. As for the hipster remark, I may as well ask you if you're some kind of mainstream idiot that only likes bad games and it would be just as valid.

By the time that all ore refineries on a map are actually depleted, you should actually have maybe three good armies.  Hell, you can have an army on each method of attack (air, sea, land).

If you actually run out of money from ore refineries, you're either not playing the game right or you're about to lose because your "turtle defense" is about to get blown up.
