Author Topic: Best version of Wine for hosting BL servers?  (Read 760 times)

I need a version that can atleast get me into the game and host BL.

I was able to long ago with wine, but I forgot what version was that.

Best version I got working is 1.2.1

Try drinking beer
much better than wine, IMO.

Stupid jokes aside, just don't get Linux. Problem solved.
(If saying that makes me sound like a computer-illiterate idiot, please disregard post)

I'd suggest using the latest one.
Also, I've used the one on the Ubuntu 10.10 repos with somewhat success (not being able to reload server-list after leaving a server).

alright, I'll guess I'll wait for 11.10, because when I installed graphical drivers the thing died on me.

How about trying with Debian/Fedora/OpenSUSE?

well, I have Fedora right now, OpenSUSE is also okay but I actually known the former package manager (family member), and Debian is meh.

I'll try using Fedora for now, if not I'll reinstall windows, even though I'd love to use Linux.

You understand that you will probably suffer major performance loss by runinng blockland on an emulator.

What part of "WINE Is Not an Emulator" is it that you can't understand?
WINE isn't an emulator, it's a reimplementation of the Win32 API.

This I know. I tried using Unix as my default OS, which will never happen again.

Blockland was most likley tested and optimized for the real Windows API. Wine's implementation is probably no where near as stable as the real API.

just as an snes app "re-implements" the snes bios to allow native snes roms to play

linux cannot just run exe's, linux has to emulate lol.
