Author Topic: GENERIC ZOMBIE DEFENSE GAME CONCEPT AND stuff  (Read 1207 times)

READ IT OR I WILL KILL EVERY LIGHT FIXTURE IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD.

I was thinking about minecraft and then I was like "stuff I want to make money like notch too".

But how could I? HOW COULD I?!

How about I make a game! That would be great!

I could learn how to use java and whatnot..It wouldn't be THAT hard.

So then I was thinking about what the game would be and I then realize that zombie defense games are fun.

But it has to be original!

So let me tell you what this is.

GZDG: Generic Zombie Defense game;
You start out in a menu.
"Exit", "Load", "Options" and "Play"

When starting, you have to name your character and roll for stats.

The stats would include:
Power: How powerful you are
Sight: How far away you can see and how much accuracy you have.
Speed: How fast you move and how fast you move items.
Sanity: Seeing zombies makes you scared. The higher the sanity, the less of a chance of "freaking out".
Willpower: Increases your willpower literally. Some things can't be done unless you have a higher willpower.

Then you choose what your character wears. Think of like choosing a different colored shirt, and whatnot.

Your town is randomly generated with randoms things and whatnot. You wake up in your house and the prompted message at the bottom says "You heard a strange noise coming from somewhere in the house!"
You then start out with one these weapons:

BB Gun
Board
Edged Ruler
Gloves

You choose which one by your determined weapon-type.

BB Gun would be ranged, Board would be blunt, Edged Rule would be Sharp and Gloves would be Unarmed combat.

Each one has a different trait.

Ranged allows you to fire from distances and not get hurt, except you have to reload.
Blunt can knock out zombies.
Sharp can inflict "Wound" which makes them get hurt over time.
Unarmed allows you to carry more items and acts like blunt.

You can carry as many items as your character can hold. There are holding items which can hold more items like a bag, a backpack and a mobile barrel and whatnot.

You go downstairs with your weapon, and you meet your first zombie. Zombies target you and only you. Being a certain radius away from them makes them stop chasing you and then wander around aimlessly. Once encountering a zombie, you have to get close enough to him and click on him. You attack anything that you click that's an enemy.

To pick up or use items, you click on them. Any item can be used as a weapon. The heavier the item, the harder it is to use it. Increasing your power lets you hold heavier weapons.

Once you kill the first zombie, your Experience goes up a little bit. Experience is used a little differently than usual. The higher it is, the better weapons you can use and the more damage you do. You "level up" by killing zombies, and you get Experience by using certain weapons that your character is accustomed to.

Certain items can be used to barricade doors and windows. Everything has a health-bar. Walls and floors can be destroyed and anything it's supporting falls. Falling things hurt and kill.

Stairs can be torn down, everything can be destroyed.

Moving onto the makeshift items. You can break down items and re-assemble them to make items like makeshift shovels and whatnot.

After starting the game you see you have seven bars.

These bars are your "needs" bars.

You need to eat, sleep, bathe, read, converse and exercise. And you have a health bar.

Eating can be done by getting food from anywhere and eating it. Eating heals you.
Sleeping is tricky, if your house isn't properly barricaded, zombies get in and kill you in your sleep. It heals you completely.
Bathing is optional, but it has some negative side affects. It heals you and removes any affects on you.
Reading calms your character. So does conversing with other people. What you read increases different things.
Exercising both heals you and increases power.

Eating and sleeping are essential. If the bars run out, you die or pass out.

Passing out is horrible as it renders your harmless.

Next you see that you have a clock. This clock tells you the time of day.

Now you're ready to barricade your house. Moving things in front of doors and windows aren't good enough. Makeshift barricades like boards and nails and makeshift locks work best.

You can also make and set traps.

Next you need to put stuff in your footlocker so you have stuff without being over-encumbered. You can make makeshift ones, but you start out with one. Once you gather up enough stuff, you can begin adding onto your house. Using boards, making floors and making your house safer should be priority number two.

What's number one?

HAVING ENOUGH FOOD IN YOUR loving FRIDGE.
You die without food, you become weak if you don't eat and there's no such thing as endless food.

Once you run out of food, you have to secure your house, get your stuff together and go to the market.

The market is full of both zombies and food. Markets hold both food AND items. Certain foods make you stronger, even less hungrier than other foods and whatnot. Any building you come across can be barricaded, so you can barricade the market.

Now after you've gotten a steady amount of food, and you have a safe shelter. Time to move on to looking for survivors.

Survivors can be saved by talking to them and leading them to safety. You can equip them with weapons and even play as them. Conversing with them calms your sanity and increases certain skills. It also increases their trust in you. The higher the trust, the more they list.

As long as you have allies, you can switch to playing them when you die.

When you die, you're dead. No respawning, no undoing and no going back in time before you died. Your character is lost forever once you die. If you have no more possibilities of continuing your town, it is lost unless you reclaim it with a new character.

Now that that's over with, lets move onto weather and affects

Weather consists of hard rain, light rain, heavy wind, snow and fog.

You can't see far ahead of you in hard rain or fog. Light rain makes puddles and gets you wet. Heavy wind blows around small items and snow can kill you if you don't have heavy clothes.

Affects are things that have been done to you.

You can have infected cuts, you can be poisoned, you can be hungry and stuff like that. Every one of them affects your character differently for better or for worst.

Now for Multiplayer games. You input a code to string to your IP. People connect to your 'server' using these codes. The game plays out the same except for multiple sentient people playing it. You can also add "AI" to act as other characters.

When a multiplayer game starts, not everybody spawns near each other. Everyone starts in a different house.

With multiplayer, you can click on a character to attack them, or right-click to trade items with them.

Oh yeah and there's no protection for your stuff. Anyone in the 'server' can steal anything you own.

And that's what I've thought up so far. Anything else I want to add will be added in the next post.

Edit one:
Vehicles. Different cars and trucks go faster or have more defense. Zombies CAN break through the car or truck. You can also use bikes or motorcycles.

It can also catch fire, as can anything else I guess. Fire spreads and does lots of damage.

To put out fire you need to use the object properly named "Fire extinguisher".

Edit two:

An advanced "recipe" system for cooking allows you to make certain foods and poisons. This would be handy.
You could also scavenge parts to make home-made bombs used for killing large mobs of zombies.

Once you get a shovel, you can dig downwards and make 'underground' shelters. Unless you have a support system it will collapse.

There would be a slim chance of a gun shop spawning somewhere in your town. Useful if you want to use guns.

nah java's more nonsensical and silly

I would pay for this game, it sounds fun.

So i'm guessing this is going to be a third person shooter?

zombie game, original? HAH.

So i'm guessing this is going to be a third person shooter?

Overhead point and click

Maybe let the zombies have their special health.
As in, if you shot a zombie in the chest, it probable wouldn't do much, but if you where lucky enough and shot it in the brains, it would die. Or if you cut there arms/legs off, they would still be alive.

Do it in Cocos2D and put it on the iPhone app store. :o
Then you could make some easy money off of it.

Oh god that's a loving brilliant idea

This sounds awesome.

You should be able to somehow upgrade weapons. If you master the BB, you get a '22. If you master the board, you get a wood baseball bat. If you master the ruler, you get a steak knife. If you master the gloves, you get boxing gloves. You can upgrade off those, too. '22 will become a magnum, wood bat will become metal, steak knife will become a hunting knife, then boxing gloves will get spikes. To "master" a weapon means to get a certain amount of kills with it. If your zombies were as easy to kill as Standard Zombies are in ZAPT, then I would set it to 25.
