So today our school put on a demonstration it does every other year. The school, local emergency services, and an organization known as "Every 15 minutes" stage a fatal car accident to show students the dangers of driving drunk. The organization gets its name from the fact that every 15 minutes somebody is killed as the result of an alcohol related collision. The organization selects 5 students from the school to participate. On the day of the event, the volunteers are dressed up in torn clothing and fake blood. They then place two damaged cars together to simulate a head on crash. The juniors and seniors of the school are then brought out to watch. The voices of the 'accident victims' and emergency service workers are played on speakers.
During the beginning a simulated 911 call gets played over the speakers as well as a voice dispatching emergency services to the area. The participants then exit the crashed cars and begin to inspect the scene. Out of the group of 5 volunteers, 3 are taken to the hospital, one is arrested for drunk driving, and the remaining one is pronounced dead on the scene. About 2 minutes in sirens are heard in the distance and multiple emergency services pull up to the scene. They then play out normal roles of an accident. The police pull the 'drunk driver' aside to give him tests, the firemen use the jaws of life to cut open the vehicles, and the paramedics treat 'injured victims'.
