Author Topic: Reasons to stop making applications for building clans  (Read 4115 times)

Before I list reasons, I'm not calling any clan bad, or trying to troll. I'm giving you reasons to stop spamming applications.

1. It is very annoying seeing a million topics a day in the gallery that are all an application.

2. If you are a bad builder; you're going to get flamed and/or insulted.
If you are a good builder; Lets say theses this new clan called "[CLAN]". Its an awesome building clan and you want to join, and you're pretty sure you can get in with your skills. You post and application, and you are accepted. The next day you go on Blockland with your tag in. You join a freebuild server and someone says, "Hey look, he's in [CLAN], he must be a good builder!", when they used to say, "Hey look, its [whoever], he's an awesome builder!". In other words, you will lose respect, and you will be viewed as part of the clan instead of an individual.

3. What is the point of joining a clan in a game about interconnecting blocks?

4. Chances are the clan is crap, and will die soon.

5. You're going to feel better than everyone else and become disliked. (I believe one of the rules of USSR is "1. No elitism.", there must be a reason for this rule, no?)

6. You will probably bring/are bringing a bad name to the clan (For example, if you are a noob, they will see the whole clan as a noob, or if you suck at building and post 500 applications and all get rejected, people will see the clan as a bunch of losers and jackasses.)

-End-

- and the flamez come marching in -

good points though

- the flamez are almost here -

Your just pissed off about Nugi's USSR apps aren't ya?
I mean, I think it's ok that they want to apply, but let's just put it this way, before you apply, search the forums for apps that got rejected, than, if you are 100% sure that you can make it, go ahead.
Don't try to make an app that is crappier than the one's already failed.
Maybe ask people on the server if they think your app could make it or not.
But I don't see a reason for them to stop posting apps.
Just don't look at it as a USSR app, and look at it as a build that's just being posted on forums for fun.
Besides, I noticed if you put USSR app in the title people really comment on the build alot even if it's crappier than builds that were just posted on the forums for fun, so that also sorta pisses me off.
So basically I sorta agree AND disagree with you. :)

Not just nugi. And some of my points apply to all people that are considering joining a clan. I'll read the rest of your post now :D

And just because you're sure you can get in doesn't mean you should. Read point 2

Yeah that's what I said, even if your sure you can get in, take a look at other apps that got rejected, if you think you can build better than that, go for it. but before posting it on the forums as an app, maybe ask people on your server if they think it will get you in or not.

Hey, I like point 2^^

Well, I see a point in Clans, it's like a team where's a higher probability to stay together and build something together.

I will stay alone, as an individual, I don't like to be in clans anymore-

My clan is just for organising huge builds..

Your clan= not USSR and therefore, not the clan under scrutiny.  Nice attention grab there, though.  I don't mind all of the crappy applications.  It's fun criticize them.

I'm not trying to point out any specific clans.

Why dont you stop building apps and concentrate on actually just building and having fun- once you start having fun and building the fame will come to you.

Thats what I said, only less complicated :(

Aha. I knew it. You're Kaphix (should've known just by the Phoenix part).... but you're not acting like an arse so it's O.K.

Anyway, yeah some of this is kind of true, some I disagree with.

Point 1: Yeah, I could imagine it getting very annoying for those who don't want to see USSR apps everywhere (or any other clan app), but being a USSR leader I don't really mind it, but I could see it starting to piss people off. We tried the forums thing but it was too much of a hassle, and they can't really post in Clan Discussion, so where can they? Maybe Badspot should make a Clan Applications sections as a child board of Clan Discussion. This may also raise the standards of some clans, althought Badspot probably won't do it for some obvious reason that I can't think of right now.

Point 2: The last part of this is somewhat true, this may happen and you could just leave if you don't like it, but the losing respect part is apparently not true because everyone is complenting the guy who just joined [CLAN] by saying 'he must be a great builder!' etc.

Point 3: :/ The point of joining a clan is to get all the perks a clan member has, and to be able to be known as a part of it and to be able to build, deathmatch, and just overall have fun with everyone in it... maybe even have a clan build competition. (by perks I mean things such as knowing the password to the clan's server and being able to moderate the clan's forums etc.)

Point 4: Sad to say it but most clans do die off pretty quickly nowadays. This is generally true. :(

Point 5: Depends on the clan, depends on the person. Not entirely true.

Point 6: I don't understand the second example, are you talking about applications to another clan? This is just a risk you have to take, I guess. Don't really know what to say for this :/.

*sigh* :(
The last part means that if someone that builds crapily enters a ton of applications that all get rejected, people will start seeing the clan (or at least the leaders) as jerks.

I wouldn't say so. Some of the forum members even post 'This probably won't get you in' on some apps.

clan members have perks?

.......no
