It's a pretty limited budget including the software and monitor (here I've at least gotta suggest you run Ubuntu on it, and it's free), but you will still be able to make something pretty decent.
I know it's British but take a look at http://overclockers.co.uk/ <-- pretty decent online store.

Don't get Ubuntu. Ubuntu shouldn't really be used on anything that you intend to game on so don't even bother.

For someone named hollywood I would assume that you are in the US. A person with common sense would assume naturally that the person who wants to buy something is located in the US. I guess you didn't...

You won't get much of a computer for $600, though. Assuming that a windows license will run about $100 and a used monitor might run you about $50, that leaves you with a little over $400 (I added the keyboard and mouse in there somewhere).

Sooo... you might be better off looking at used computers in your area. I'm sure if you searched around you could find a pretty decent package for under $600.

If you didn't put the pieces together yet I wouldn't recommend it because of your rather low budget. There really is no point in building a computer for $400 because it would be mostly last-gen hardware which isn't even worth doing.

If you could scrape together or save another $200 you would be much, much better off.

He's right, I didn't even think you meant a gaming system.

Also, you are a fool to assume I am anywhere based on my name.

all As?
how about barely getting honor roll.
i have a D in english because our long term sub is a forgettard and we just whack off in her class everyday.

600 bucks can put together an ok gaming tower.
but if you need the rest of the desktop accessories, you should not take it out of that budget.
600 bucks is tight for low budget

bump
please answer my question.

The GTS 250 is a few generations old and it's honestly not very powerful although it will handle source games pretty well. The Nvidia kit isn't even worth bothering because it uses a dual-core when instead the other kit uses a quad core. I would definitely go with the second one although the power supply is pretty weak which isn't really a big problem unless you intend to upgrade your GPU (I would...). Keep in mind though that that price includes the $50 rebate. With shipping it'll probably end up costing you about $525. That would end up being about $50 over you budget (more if you intend to get a new monitor) but the tradeoff for the cost is definitely worth it.

That being said, it depends on the resolution of the monitor you get. If you end up getting a 1440 x 900 monitor the GTS 250 will do fine but if you intend to get a monitor with a higher resolution the card might stumble a bit.

Ok, what if i have an $800 budget? Can you guys pick some parts for me?
