Boosting torrent speed?

Can anyone give tips on how to make my torrents go faster?
Port forwarding didn't seem to help, but I think I did it wrong so I'm gonna reattempt in a bit.
Anything else I should try?

NOTE: Before anyone whines about torrenting being illegal - it's not. It's just a type of downloading that relieves stress on a server with peer to peer downloading.

Try to set that to 1kb/sec or something low like that.
