Author Topic: What's Your Stance on the "Jetway"?  (Read 1125 times)

In Blockland, there are four convenient ways to get from one story to another:
  • Stairways
  • Ladders
  • Elevators
  • Teleporters
This third option, the elevator, has long been a frustrating and tedious thing to build and event (Teleporters as well, but that's for another time). Some people build hollow shafts with doorways at the different floors, for players to access via jetting. Some would argue that it's naught but an excuse not to event, but then again, some might argue that protesting the use of jetways because it's not "realistic" would be like saying that stairs aren't appropriate because humans are not supposed to use their feet. If someone were to create a realistic, human environment and disable jets, that would be a good cause to not use jetways and instead create a different way to travel from floor to floor.

I do not object to the use of a jetway, because blockheads are not humans, they are LEGO minifigures with a lawsuit-avoiding design and have the ability to spout fire from the soles of their feet in order to fly, and should use this ability in everyday life.

I don't know, perhaps you think I'm some sort of crazy person for bringing this topic up. What do you think?

It doesn't really matter to me, but I do prefer to walk up a set of stairs.

Adopt non-conformity, it will make you less of a "crazy person"

Reason I hate jetways are because they are annoying. Most people that build them have a space that you can barely fit in and a small space to land on making it very hard to actually go to different floors.

Or you could just remove the walls and it would be even easier! After all, it doesn't have to be realistic, right? I mean, they're just blocks! Hurr durr!

This as well.

I have become quite good at making fully functioning elevator facades that work by teleporters and identical elevator chambers with sealing exits and light/sound effects.

Most people get satisfactory results using this

Once again, I do not object to the use of jetways in building. They are an effective way to get from floor to floor, if you can use them correctly. Stairs and ladders are beautiful methods too, methods that I find myself using a lot, believe it or not. If you can make a fully functional elevator, then rock on. I do not object to using elevators.

While I accept less skilled eventers (or people concerned about lag or continuity) including such structures in their builds, I would never use one. (To more adequately address the question in the title.)

I don't like "Jetways", but it's not something I would outwardly make fun of someone for using. They just seem like lazy building and often look bad. Like something should go there.

Ditto.
Cept' the light/sound effects.
I have a modded version of Building 6 with elevators in them
Those elevators should be faster though.

I feel the need to include a flickering light sometimes just to give it that "oh forget this elevator is gonna get me killed" feeling I experience so much at stuffty buildings.
Also JVS garage door sound on a loop works for an elevator noise really well.

The elevator in my dad's old apartment creaked so much that I used the stairs unless I absolutely had to use the elevator. And the apartment was on the third floor.

40% elevators, 60% stairs for me.
