Author Topic: Simple Host Server Co. Comes To Blockland!  (Read 15653 times)

Have you even tried to run blockland multiplayer on WINE yet?
Yes, and it works quite well.

Ok, well then could you explain how I'm short of an OS and the Game Itself?

What he's saying, is that he created all of the software used to run his servers, not including the OS, or the game itself.

What he's saying, is that he created all of the software used to run his servers, not including the OS, and the game itself.
And of course the engines used for those languages.

Ok, great Kalphiter, you learned to program.

Ok, great Kalphiter, you learned to program.
And I never went to a tech school.

I know we have a few, I was suggesting he make some with his logo on them. And they wouldn't only apply to BL servers either.
I just released an API for mine.

Honestly, I would rather have a decent and cheap server, than an amazing and expensive server. And I think this has some potential. But now that most the aggression has ended, maybe a more technical post could help reduce the future aggression?
I understand why Kalphiter and a few others were/are aggressive, and I don't want to start any more aggression, but it is really quite simple. Joey is starting a service to host simple and cheap servers. Comparing to Kalphiter's, (As far as I can tell) they sacrifice power and speed for less cost, which appeals to some, such as me. While others may want a stronger and more (Again, as far as I can tell) relyable service, they can still use Kalphiter's. I see nothing wrong with any of that. Infact, (As far as I can tell) the Target Market for each separate service is different, so there shouldn't be any conflictions.

Again, I don't want to start any more aggression, nor do I expect this to end any of it, I am not taking sides with Joey, or Kalphiter, I'm just pointing out the facts.

-Our servers run Linux.

Blockland Deds cant run on Linux.
Even with Wine it will not work correctly.

It's worked perfectly for me to host under Linux.
However, Wine can't run batch scripts so you can't launch it with "dedicated.bat".

Its good that there will be another server hoster here. Now Kal can't be a richard to his customers.

*nods*

This is good.

As I see it, we need competition.
Now we just need a couple of european hosts too.

But all the dedicated.bat does is launches it with the -dedicated and -map arguments. For example, I can launch a dedicated like this on Linux:

wine "/home/testuser/Blockland/blockland.exe" -dedicated -map bedroom

EDIT:
The workaround is just a dedicated.sh file. And all it has to do is that command, and you're done, server is running. Or you can have a more advanced server setup script, I made one, but we don't use it anymore.

Are you going to add features onto the dedicated servers, or different packages?
Like, how are we going to install the add-ons into the server.
