Author Topic: What is wrong with my graphics card?  (Read 1143 times)

Eh, bump, I still couldn't get it to work. I got the right drivers, but I didn't disable the 6100 in safe mode, just in normal mode, and I never gave it time to restart, I just turned off the PC after disabling it and plugged in the 4650. Is that a problem, or would it not work b/c of it?

I guess try it.

Alright, I got the card in AGAIN, disabled the integrated one in safe mode, etc., and it still isn't showing up in the hardware menu thing.

Maybe the card is just defective or it/motherboard has bent pins (probably card if so).

-snip-

Anyways, I got it to work ONCE a few weeks back, but I restarted my PC and I get the same problem.

It r Lemon, return it and get a nVidia.

Just because you got a defective card doesn't mean you should return it for the other brand of card.
on-topic: I would take it to a computer store and see what they say.

It's from Best buy, and they don't take refunds, so I am stuck with this card, I cannot return it.

If the card is still under warranty file an RMA from the manufacturer if needed.

No thanks

Wouldn't buying it from Best Buy void the manufacturers warranty?

No.

What?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that there's something wrong with the card. Maybe it got damaged during shipping or something.

Put both cards in at the same time and enter the bios. When you're in the bios look for an option that says default video connector or something like that and select PCI-E.

If that doesn't work try the card in your good PC to see if it is actually the card that is broken.

I've already done that a while ago.

No avail.

Anyways, I'm going to issue an RMA from the manufacturer.

Just a heads up before you get a new card. You do not need to disable the integrated graphics chip to install a graphics card. You should actually not do this. Having never done this I can't really tell you if Windows will even honor this setting in the hardware manager, but you should definitely leave it on in case you ever decide to plug the monitor into your motherboard. For example, if your graphics card died and you still wanted to be able to use the computer, you'd probably want it working. You also don't need to disable the old card before putting in a new card.
