Author Topic: Blockland has a TV Tropes page, apparently.  (Read 4171 times)

They are actually pretty accurate

Shut up newbie, go stay in the corner with the other newbies >:(

Also, there needs to be a sort of 'Legs of Steel' entry that notes that falling damage can be toggled and an entry about the light bulbs and windows being breakable

Well, since we're going to count the Tier+Testicle weapons set as though it were a default part of the game,we might as well add:

Aka 47: Blockland's most popular weapons set, the Tier+Tactical, consists almost entirely of weapons taken from various games made by Valve Software, particularly Left4Dead 2.

i'm not counting it as default, i'm basing tropes off what i know

and, you know, since i made tier+tactical, i would hope i would know what i'm talking about

i would hope so too

Yes, but you still can't count the Tier Tactical as though it were default. it would be like adding tropes to the page for a game for things found in various mods of said game, like, say adding tropes found in Team Fortress Classic to the page on Quake.

well, at this point in time mods are such an integral part of the game that not including them would be stifling the experience somewhat

maybe really peculiar or really really obvious mods should be up there, and run-of-the-mill ones can be mentioned in passing

or, barring that, we could just make a mod section for the main page

No. That is not what the article for "AKA 47" is for. AKA 47 is when a gun or vehicle or weapon looks and functions almost identically to a real one. Like from Crysis, the FY71 is clearly an AK of some make. Or how literally every gun in CSS is a real gun under a different name. That page is not for comparing mod weapons to weapons from another game.

will improve the page later with stuff from this thread.

done.
added image, i'm done.

Any idea as to what else can be added?

my grammar was really, really off the night i posted these. let's just say i was really tired.

first off, we should probably replace the original entries (the ones i wrote) with these replacement entries

Bottomless Magazines: The weapons Blockland comes stock with (and the vast majority of downloadable weapons) have no need to reload, and no ammo system. Certain mods get around this, like Rotondo's Zombie Mod.
Good Guns, Bad Guns: Tier+Tactical's Classic Assault Rifle and Classic Battle Rifle are, respectively, an M-16 and an AK-47. They were designed with this trope in mind.
Short Ranged Long Ranged Weapon: "Sniper Duels" generally consist of fights at point-blank with high powered rifles. Inversion: Many stereotypically shorter ranged weapons like pistols, shotguns and SMGs are usable at long ranges: in many cases they pick up where actual rifles leave off.
Handcannon: Every other weapon is wielded in one hand. Several are magnums that fire rounds larger then the players head.
Acceptable Breaks from Reality: Physics is treated more like a suggestion then a law. Bricks tend to only follow this suggestion when coerced with violence.
Standard FPS Guns: It's become a trend as of recently among modders. The basic game comes with a standard pistol, dual pistols and a rocket launcher.
Accidental Aiming Skills: Due to the 'traveling' nature of weaponry, many times a player won't so much shoot their target as their target walks into their bullet. What makes this different from outright 'leading' is many times the victim won't even be in their aggressor's line of sight in the first place, often walking out from behind walls or out of cover to be hit by a stray round.

aaaaand add these

Zombie Apocalypse: Zombie mods exist; if only the community would use them more often.
Sturgeon's Law: The better part of the server list is generally clogged up with 'knife DMs', 'army RPs' and generic knock-offs of the 10% of Blockland's servers that are good. The most direct example would be the amount of cityRPG servers that have popped up, since the source was leaked.
Follow the Leader: Most servers nowadays are based off of older servers that have shut down or otherwise closed their doors.
Never bring a gun to a swordfight: Averted, except in the case of the Combat Knife- an instant kill to anyone within arm's length, and quite easy to get into people who aren't paying attention.

People are actually editing this? It's not some random crap put together by some crawlers for stuffs and trolls? Man I really do not get TVTropes..

Most of Bushido's additions are good, but
Accidental Aiming Skills: Due to the 'traveling' nature of weaponry, many times a player won't so much shoot their target as their target walks into their bullet. What makes this different from outright 'leading' is many times the victim won't even be in their aggressor's line of sight in the first place, often walking out from behind walls or out of cover to be hit by a stray round.
doesn't really work. Just because a player can do something, doesn't make it a trope. Otherwise, every game with projectile weapons would have "Accidental aiming Skills". Besides, that's more of a narrative trope rather than a gameplay trope.
