Actually, I have never had a bot harass me over steam. You just need to stop falling for those clearly fake friend invites. Protip: if someone named "hornygirl284" adds you, it's a bot.

Wait, was the rest of that directed at me, or him? Meh, either way, Steam is primarily gaming. And gamers are less tolerant to that kind of starfishry, so they don't do it. And in any case, AIM and other crap messengers get this, too. I'm just saying it isn't like MSN is the only place this happens, and I'd rather that not be a primary reason against it. It has tons of primary reasons as is.

They are bots, no matter what they say they will keep the same replica. Even if you say you are gay, or if you say "forgetforgetforget you you you!! PROWEJQFOPQJOQWJOPJ!!", it will be the same.

They don't keep responding with the same thing, they react to certain phrases most times. Try saying the words "credit card" in a sentence. Usually they'll say something stupid about it being for age verification, even if that isn't what you were talking about.

They totally fail the Turing test.

It's not MSN's fault. All messaging systems have at least one of them. It's not like MSN is telling these bot people our emails.

If I made a topic called "Random women keep trying to scam me over Steam." would you go "This is why I never use Steam?" It's all the same, MSN isn't some special case of it.

MSN is a program which sole purpose is chatting. Steam's purpose is selling you games, and the chat function is additional.
I can choose to not use Steam chat and the program would still do what it was meant for, MSN wouldn't, since it is only for chatting.

People tell me to "get on Steam" only to chat. It lags me because it's more than just chat to open. MSN can send files to others directly, unlike Steam. Where does it keep chatlogs? Modable features? Drawing and direct picture sharing?

But I digress: I'm only addressing your thoughts that MSN is solely chat when it really isn't. Please do not take this as a challenge.
