Freedom is the ability to do what you please to a reasonable extent, at least that's how it's applied in the US. He (guy who wrote the whole thing) appears to be associating "freedom" with being monitored.
We have 10 times the freedom some nations do, I don't see how he can complain about that. Sure, we may be monitored (a lot less intensely than he describes, btw) but if you're not breaking the law, you shouldn't mind. The government isn't using your personal information for their own causes. I digress...anyway, we have the freedom to do whatever want that's bound by legality, and if we the people see the legality unjust we have the right to protest it. That's pretty damn free if you ask me.
Let's look at China. My friend spent a semester there, and had to use VPN to access skype. She had to use a proxy to access Facebook, and a bunch of other sites. People over there are worked harder, longer, and with less pay.
Overall, this block of text in the OP seems to pick out the faults of our nation and blow them out of proportion. Each nation has their downsides of course, no nation is perfect, but I have this feeling that whoever wrote it had a particularly horrible experience with something in the US...maybe he drew the short straw in life, who knows. All I can say for sure is that none of this is THAT horrible. People are getting by just fine as a whole, though reforms are necessary in areas of food production for example.
