You'll probably have to spend almost twice that much for a laptop capable of running the new Battlefield game (I'm assuming you meant 3 and not 2). I have a fairly good gaming desktop and I'm probably going to be upgrading my GTX 460 to two GTX 570s come BF3.
Also, Alienware aren't that outrageously priced for their high-end models when compared to other high-end laptops of similar specs. You also get a machine that was built just for you, with parts that were more or less recently shipped in, so you know you aren't paying for a machine that has been sitting in a warehouse for months.
