Author Topic: Help! My CPU Fan is Running Extremely Slow! (Read 676 times)

My last power supply burned out a while ago, and I just got a new one, 700w, which is plenty to power my computer, but when I boot my PC, the fan goes to %100, but within another second, it quickly drops really low, I opened it up and it was just barely spinning. I faced a room fan towards it so it wouldn't get too hot. SpeedFan reports it going 320 RPM at the moment.

It gets lower and lower every minute. When I boot, it quickly goes from 30c to 60c. It was at 250F when it finished booting. When I set the BIOS to control it or have it running at %100 it still goes slow.

Check the motors for dust.

Also, RPM is based on what CPU you have, I have 3000 RPM, for instance, with Pentium IV Single Core.

I think you have an overpower there, I am not sure if 700W is really needed for you. I have 450W for instance.

You'd need a bigger power supply just if the components require it, and if you have more than one hard disk.

I think you should see a mechanic.

I have a powerful psu because I plan on buying a second graphics card and CrossFireXing.
I have a Pheneom II X4 940 3.0Ghz and my graphics card is a Radeon HD 4850 (kind of a budget card but runs Crysis on very high)
with 3 gigs of RAM.
With my old power supply I had set it to run at %100 all the time, and it did so.

I don't think that's the problem because it goes to %100 as soon as it starts but goes back down after a second.

Mmmm, no.

CPUs should generally at most be 50 C on idle.

You may need to buy a replacement CPU fan, OP. I had a CPU fan give out on me in an old computer once and the computer would shut down after a while.

But it works fine the first 2 seconds it starts. :c
And this is a high end fan. I don't wana give it up. :c
