The key difference being that Yndaaa provided actual contributions in the 3D model topic. That's why he was showered with praise when he returned, his models were pretty good.
Maelstrom didn't ever really do anything. I can't see how anyone would really celebrate her return unless they were a friend of hers.

Also I'm pretty sure leaving posts are a permaban.
