Watching the movie now. What I was saying was mostly aimed at the FW. What I said about the P-47 was mostly based on the fact that it is big and heavy. I also experienced it to be a bit less maneuverable than for example the Spit in games I've played.

EDIT: lol, why the hell would german FLAK not be informed? That's just stupid. I would also think that the FLAK should know the silhouette of their own planes, especially if they fly the wrong way :P

You looked up Y-29? They did that to mantain secrecy xD
P.S. Theres a movie about Y- 29?

Documentary by History Channel on YouTube. I think it's the same thing you watched. If not, check it out, it's pretty nice. Though I'm not a fan of how the allies seemed to have no casualties, while the axis died like flies. I mean, every time a german plane took some hits, it would start burning and crash into the ground within the next 2 seconds. Every time an allied plane got hit (very rarely), it would keep on flying for hours, as if nothing happend. Seems a bit odd to me.

Was it Dogfights? The episode about Y- 29? Just yesterday they had a show about how rugged the P- 47 is xD.

Probly.
The ruggedness of the P-47 doesn't explain why the FW's caught fire as fast as a piece of paper, though :P I bet old american pilots made that show :P

I mentioned the P- 47 Dogfights b/e we I was talking about it before. Sorry, Ima:
Aviation Geek, P- 47 Expert, etc, etc, etc xD

GAWD DAMMIT SOMEONE REPLY

Perhaps an HE-162? It was a really late war fighter and really cheaply made.

a Lerche?

or even a DO-335?

-snip-
I love those planes, but I really think we should have the main fighters of the Luftwaffe first (Bf 109) :P

A Daimler Benz C would be epic but, huge, but still would be cool to launch jet fighters from your wings.
Or a JU-390, still big, but would be interesting.
Brings up the what if, Germany managed to produce their "Post War Wonders?"

My favourite german prototype was the Horten Ho 229. It was the first stealth bomber, and one of the first planes to utilise "flying wing" technology. It was probably about 30 years ahead of its time, if not more.

Let's see, there are 8 .50 cal MGs on the wings of the P-47. The FW190 has 2 .312cal fuselage mounted MGs, 2 wing root mounted .312cal MGs, and 2 wingtip mounted 20mm MGs. Put simply, the P-47 outguns the 190. I understand the 190 had superior maneuverability, but a lot of the time, speed and maneuverabilty < firepower and ruggedness.

And the 190's fuel tank leaked (and caught fire) a bit more easily, as the tank was made of metal, while the fuel tank of the P47 was made of a self-repairing rubber-like material.

The P-47D is a fighter-bomber so it had to be able to take hits from AA Flak, while the FW-190 was a interceptor ment to take down bombers on quick passes.

King Leo, I like that plane :D. Did you guys know that the Russians were making a submarine/ plane? It never really happened because the Germans invaded.

Mhm, that P-47 armament is quite lethal.

But if we take the FW-190D (yes, I know those 190s in the video were 190A's), it would be a harder fight for the P-47. It had a much stronger engine and armour, but the maneuvrability went down. Some versions of the 190D were equiped with 2*20mm cannons and 2*30mm cannons. Taking a hit from the 30mm will probably dent even a P-47 :P

I love that plane myself. And it was made in the same city as me :D
Too bad it wasn't finished earlier. I think a couple of those could have given the allies some troubles.
