Author Topic: Classic Books being Banned  (Read 8743 times)

What's the source on this? As I'd like to read why a few of the other books where banned.

The whole book is largely centred on the subject of the unfairness of racism and loveism.
No, it's not.

12. James and the Giant Peach, Roald Dahl, 1961
Why didn't they ban the movie instead? I'd rather read the original book then watch the loosely-based movie.

Damnit I need a link for this

My school libary has this hung on the wall, along with several other pro-banned-book-reading posters.

They don't want us becoming too smart and figuring out what really is going on in our government.

It offends Religious people.
"I am offended and I want XYZ removed"

wait, stuff

I'm pretty sure that one of those books was banned because it uses the word "Bitch", even though in reference to a female dog.
"A Wrinkle in Time" was banned somewhere I heard, because some guy objected to Jesus Christ on the list of people that protect earth from evil or something.

The Harry Potters movies may also be banned. xD
Its amazing how America is so "Be healthy" while other country (Especially Japan) is "Just be YOU"

A truly biased public school system in NYC

No, it's not.
I've studied the book for two years, I know what I'm talking about.
EDIT: What point do you disagree on? That that's one of the themes of the book or that it's one of the major themes?

A truly biased public school system in NYC
What's going on there?

What's going on there?
Well, I shouldn't say truly, but they could be pretty biased.

When I was in 6th grade, we were working on a project that involved Spanish/Mexican immigrants and whats your point of view on them.  So in order to develop an opinion on it, they gave us a book list to read a couple books based on this.  When I went over the list, I noticed that every single book was based on an immigrant (whether it was crossing the border illegally and being captured, or just simply having a poor life in America through going there legally) that developed a poor lifestyle due to the hardships America had to offer.  This causes the readers (students) to develop a hatred on our system.

Keep in mind, one of these immigrants (one of the books) came to America due to hardships in there homeland.  Now, most students at a young age would develop a sympathetic feeling towards these kinds of people.  Once the immigrant has had enough in the country, the immigrant crossed the border illegally in hopes of a good life in the United States.  Now the students would offer amnesty to this poor individual.  Once this immigrant is captured and sent back to its homeland, the students would develop a hatred for the United States or would simply dislike its system of deporting illegal immigrants.  All students, assuming they don't have a formal education in this category, will unarguably choose one side, due to its limiting books, therefore manipulating them.
