Ash-Eating Rabbits in Our Backyard?

Ok so in our backyard we have a large pile of ashes from your extended family the charcoal that my dad uses in grilling delicious meat products.

We have rabbits in our backyard. They enjoy eating the ash. I don't know why. They also seem to enjoy wallowing in it, maybe because it keeps bugs away?

I need answers. Anyone else have these strange "Ash-Rabbits" in his or her yard?

The ash isn't getting into the meat, and if I plan to cook them I'll first skin them.
THEN I roll them in ashes.

Lay a trap

Put a pile of ashes on the grass and sit there with a BB gun. Shoot it when it comes to roll/eat
