Ghost bricks won't show up

This is really annoying and makes it alot harder to build. I'm on a windows Vista and the map this happens on the most in Slate Desert.

- Reinstall?

Same, but usually when it disappears I kill myself and respawn and it usually fixes itself for #3.

Go to options;
Scroll down to Gui Options;
Check "Temp Brick - Outside uses paint color";
Click apply;
Click done;
See if it works.
