I really dont understand MLP at all. why do you people like it?
I really hate to judge but I've wondered why for the longest time..
Why is it such a great show? Nobody has ever given me an answer. I don't wanna start BS I just want to know straight up why anyone would like a flash animated television show made for little girls that is about magic ponies and friendship...
Like you say Great Show as if it could compare to the amazing story and drama of Breaking Bad.. or the hilarious writing of Modern Family. You say "Great" and I really just wonder why.
Great animation true, but very childish story. I don't understand why people like it.
I've always found it rather difficult to describe exactly why I enjoy this show.
When captain blue made the first thread, I immediately thought the same as the rest: "Why?" (
and this was my first response, too)
The next thread (which zookuw made) appeared a month or so later and I decided to look at the first episode. I saw a book and heard "Once upon a time, in the magical land of Equestria" and turned it off,
I posted that too. My thoughts from that 5-second preview was that it would be another Barbie-show.
I didn't actually watch the full episode, along with its partner,
until two months later. (and haha at my comment, most of my opinions of the characters have changed.
here's another after I had watched eight of the episodes)
Most of my opinions haven't changed. The show looks nice, I don't find the cartoon-style to be unappealing.
The animation isn't something I would consider a reason to like a show, and there are many errors in it as well (though the plus-side is many fans like to try and find each error in each episode, almost like those "lost and found" comic-things). But it isn't half-assed like I would consider many other modern shows, they appear to at least try to do decent animations.
It has humor. The many puns you see in the show give a good giggle, the jokes are not always funny. Some of the ponies are incredibly funny (Pinkie Pie) whether if they are acting strange or doing something rather interesting.
The first seasons episode-stories are predictable and generic, the second season has gotten less predictable. I wouldn't consider them award-winning, but how they go from minute 0 to minute 22 is entertaining.
Lastly, this cartoon is cute. It is not intense, full of action, and dramatic(unless Rarity is involved). The show is very chill, something to relax to. The characters are not complete dumbasses like you would see in SpongeBob, and they are not like Dora the Explorer who tells you to repeat every damn word she says.
I consider this show to be better than
most of Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon's current airing shows.
The fact that the show revolves around cartoon horses doesn't bother me, as I've watched shows revolved around a felt-blue puppy, a bear that had various animals friends along with a human friend, and that cartoon movie series about a long-necked dinosaur that loved treestars.
In the end, it's something you enjoy or it's something you don't.
That is exactly why I don't like it. I watched episode 2 halfway through but that song just made me quit. I can listen to LazyTown soundtrack and thoroughly enjoy it but this stuff. Ewww. It's like full of rainbows and ponies.. Oh wait.
Various songs of the show make me shudder at times, though over time I have learned to cope with most of them. I actually enjoy one or two.
I still skip the theme song every time I watch the show though.

It isn't really comparable with the more adult-type shows.
It could be considered a "good" kids show, but I doubt it will ever win an Emmy.
and that's my two cents. if that doesn't explain anything, well perhaps I'll try again.
