I had actually forgotten about Nightmare Moon, that really adds more to what I'm saying.
I still see Nightmare Moon as Luna. She may have been possessed by dark magic (Lauren Faust's non-canon explanation), but she obviously had some consciousness or else she wouldn't have apologized or had any memory from the point of possession till just then.

Even if it is a minor inconsistency, I would like to make sense out of it. This being what it is, that is unlikely to happen lol
