So anything happened or same stuff?

they are their own species.

Wot

I'm telling you, they're genetic mutations. A DNA pair added itself into the code, creating a hybrid of sorts.

But if such is the case, then how would the extra DNA get into the genetic code?

Cross breeding

Cross breeding

But if it purely happened with crossbreeding, then why is there only a total of two Alicorns in Equestria?

The only alicorns are Celestia and Luna. They aren't genetic mutations, they're gods.

Gene mutations, as said before, genes will mutate in order to adapt to the surroundings.

If they're GODS

Then why do they exist in the physical bounds of existance, and in one small form?

There are three types of genetic mutation.

1) Addition

2) replacement

3) removing

Each of these happens during DNA replication, or when DNA tries to copy itself. My guess, as I'm no biologist, is that there was an error in DNA replication during the development processes in the womb, and it created an alicorn.

Maybe it's a rare mutation

That's where reality goes into cartoon science.

Perhaps. :o

Maybe they chose to exist in those forms so they could directly interact with other ponies.

Were discyssing mutations in ponies?

Cool.

Maybe they chose to exist in those forms so they could directly interact with other ponies.

But if you could take ANY form, such as a gigantic dragon, a huge angel, or something like that, even though you would still be able to directly interact with other ponies, why would you want such a small form, of all things?
