Sometimes it seems like Hasbro intentionally made this cartoon perfect for reaction pictures and other suggestive images (see:asa). There's also a lot of meme fuel spread throughout. I think this may be the reason My Little Pony caught on. Faust was smart.

it probably just represents their star quality, but they will have their moments since nobody is perfect

it would be pretty damn boring if they acted in an activity that corresponded exactly to their element for the rest of their lives.

Yeah, I feel the Elements of Harmony only matter when Equestria is in dire circumstances.
Outside of that, the ponies really don't have to represent them. Overall they tend to act as their element describes but not all the time.
