If dragons grow by greed, then how does that work?

I don't think it's their only route of growth. "Secret of my Excess" didn't explain much on dragon growth outside of the greed-method Zecora explained, it's quite possible that dragons can grow naturally without it.

I mean really, a dragon could go from baby to adult in less than a week through greed. There must be some other way.
