soft lines are coolbro tho
Depends on the artists style and intended feel for the artwork. There's also a difference between soft lines and feathery/sketchy lines.

it looks sort of like they're just standing in a desolate gray landscape

maybe draw some buildings in the background, or something? maybe some clouds and a sun?
Your lines are sketchy and feathery.

yeah i know
i'm trying to figure out how to make outlines that satisfy myself. i tried no outlines a few times, it didn't really feel like what i wanted. i know i don't want black outlines, too cartoony and feels like vector work.

i don't really know how to figure it out though, so basically i'm playing around with these weekly thing-an-episode drawings. forcing myself to do a drawing within a day is hard to adjust to, since i usually would take three or more days on a drawing i cared about

Maybe make the outlines a darker shade of the inner color like in the show? I prefer black and white for my art so I don't have the best understanding on this. I'm sure some of the guys and gals at r/mlpdrawingschool would have some awesome tips if you asked.

I went to there and found this on the page:
Didn't know you found a whole lot of nothing!

i don't think the color of the outline is my problem, it's how they are created/what tool is used
besides that, in art i'm trying to drive away from the show in certain ways, that being one of them

Probably late, but JJ finally did an Aliens crossover!

Maybe go for a more painted feel? Use the outline like a coloring book and paint over it? Oh oh or maybe use the air brush or smudge the outline into the color! Man I really should start drawing again.

New episode:

Laughing, intrigued, scared, and then "NO GET IT OFF THE SCREEN THIS INSTANT"

i've been needing to play with the other tools. the most i touch are pen, marker, and brush.
and no, i don't like the painted feel as far as i know. i like it more on the cartoony side, but not so much that it practically IS the show's style

"NO GET IT OFF THE SCREEN THIS INSTANT"
Was that the wall of paint?

i was poking around on pages ~1590
