Fancharacter, as in a character designed with the setting of the series in mind, who (supposedly) interacts with the storyline here or there (or sometimes everywhere). They are of course used in fanfictions by their very nature but also show up in roleplays.

Most people know those as OCs (Original Characters), and yes a lot of people here have them. I'm not sure how many are noteworthy, but most would probably more than happy to show you them.

Ah, I always distinguished FC and OC by specificity to the series; an FC is very obviously tied into the story of a series while an OC is a bit more original and less based in one particular series. Well, I've learned today.

Reason I ask is I've got ten OCs for the series and I'm weaving them into an incredibly complex story linked as well to another completely original idea of mine that I'm working out, and I'm looking for feedback on the concepts.

in this topic, most don't mind them as long as they aren't ugly as sin/poorly done or drawn
it just depends. a couple regulars here have OCs

i personally don't have one
there are various OCs i love, though to be fair they are all created by Friendship is Magic team members (Faust's character, Sibsy's "Wildfire")


elsewhere, it just depends. some hate them, some like them, some don't care

As for OC's quite a few people have them. You'll find that the people who complain about them are fewer in number but more vocal than the people with no problem with OC's.

My OC. I used to have a really crappy avatar of it. I would like to remake this in Photoshop since I've improved a lot in the last 6 months.

To answer your question, I personally do not feel OCs have an impact on anything and so they're not bad until you take them too far. My favourite OC is MicTheMicrophoneZero's pony.
