it's still a my little pony movie
it's just only focused on Twilight going into this humanoid alternate world, with Spike as a dog (will he even be able to speak?). the other girls won't be coming along though, it'll just have their humanoid counterparts who haven't met a Twilight Sparkle because she never existed in their world

so although it is technically a generation 4/friendship is magic era movie, it's primarily set in an alternate world where things that shouldn't happen are likely going to happen (which, since it's separate from season four, could make it officially non-canon even though i'll consider it non-canon regardless). not really a legitimate pony movie

I know it's been around for a while, but the idea only sparked just now.
From the looks of it, I think Equestria Girls came out of the blue just because Hasbro wanted to promote a new side-product of humanoid dolls.  That's my best guess.  I don't see any other reasonable explanation for why Meghan would decide to make it.

it's not really her decision. she's part of the DHX/whatever company, when that firm is hired to do a job they give it to them and they do it. jayson is head director, she's just head writer (and that's literally it, she just writes). she gets to do what she loves and mess with the fans at the same time. he's likely more responsible for it than her.

i have a theory

the official posters are showing Twilight and friends with horns and wings, as if they are pony-humanoids. yet in the trailer, they were just humanoids with no such features. it was noted somewhere that there is no magic in this world. i'm guessing that Twilight is somehow going to bring magic to this world, and this will somehow transform these characters into pony-humanoids.

i'll have a good laugh if i'm right
