Faust based her characters on mixtures of past generation my little pony characters. rainbow dash's personality is based off of G1 Firefly, while her design is based off of both her concept art of Firefly and G3 rainbow dash. rainbow dash was blue/cyan in G3, so she remained that color for Friendship is Magic. also, speedy characters tend to be a blue color.
