I read the entire thing, Really Sirrus, you should write a book. This information would spread much more quickly if multiple copies and sources were spread out among people rather than a bunch of users on a Blockland forum. Your post is actually an excellent overview on how self discipline is declining. Or at least that's what I gleaned out of it. Also I'm a bit confused at the title.

Now, lets stop being handicaps here and realize the government is set up to protect us. Protect us from what, you might ask. Well they protect us from crazies, criminals, and other countiries we might be in conflict with. It's not their job to make sure everyone has a happy little life with wifey and kids. That's up you.

If you want to sit at your desk in school and try to score some pusillanimous individual, yeah, you'll have a stuff job because you never tried. If sit in your desk, pay attention and take courses benifical to your career choice, you're bound to go somewhere. I took a leadership course in 8th grade, and now I'm going to Washinton D.C. for a nation security convention because I was top of my state in said class.

tl;dr
School teaches and guides you if you are willing to learn. If not, enjoy minimum wage and heathcare.
The government protects you from outside threats, not yourself or bad decisions.

As far as the title goes, I see a thread every once and a while like Shinji's that talk in really broad, repetitive terms about what's wrong in the U.S. (stupid people, consumerism, etc.) but they always seem to be just rehashing the same stuff, so I wanted to make a thread detailing trends I'm seeing and why I think these are occurring. Basically, sure, there's a good number of people capable of realizing how stupid our society is getting, but I wanted to exam and try to flesh out why this is happening and where it all started.

And since nobody writes essays on this stuff that I've seen on the forums at least, I just wanted to call attention to the fact that it wasn't another pedestrian bitching thread about the common faults people see in today's society.

First, I don't give a forget if you don't think your or anyone else is happy. The government makes sure you have the basic necessities for living. If you aren't happy with being alive, go kill yourself then. It'll be quicker and no one else will have to deal with the burden of supporting you.

Secondly, it's only an issue for the weak. Survival of the fittest, whether it be mentally or physically fit, will always be the prime factor in success, whether success is staying alive or living a livish life with many riches.
