I just heard about a bill called Bill S.978 being proposed. This bill is suppose to protect copyrighted material from being posted online. The reason it was proposed was because that the people who create TV shows make money off of it. When episodes are streamed online for free, they get no money. So if this bill gets passed, we can't watch are favorite episodes online any more. But it gets worse. Videogames will also not be able to be posted online. That means no more Lets Plays, Speedruns, and other Videogame videos. The videos already up will be fine, but must be taken down if there is videogames in it. People will be able to make Lps and Speedruns if they contact the company and ask permission, but they have to hire a lawyer and go through a bunch of stuff just to make a video.
Here is a worst case scenario posted by SCORP2001 on a Youtube.
1. Bill is passed.
2. Nobody buys games because they don't know if they're good because all gaming videos and reviews and such are illegal.
3. Gaming companies make less money, so they make less games.
4. Youtube has a rapid decline in videos due to less games and less gaming videos, regardless of their legality.
5. Owning Youtube, Google begins losing profits.
6. Government bails Google out.
7. Economic depression.
8. ???
I don't know if that will actually happen, but the result of this bill is proably similiar.
This also may affect Blockland because people won't see Blockland videos to see how the game is played.
I saw a Blockland video and then I started playing. I told my friends about it, and they started playing. Including me, I got 5 people to join Blockland. Thats 100$ for Eric.
