Author Topic: Trying to host lan.  (Read 2071 times)

I tried hosting a lan game, without success.

I had 2 computer (On a lan obviously, I knew the lan was working because they could access each others drives)

One had blockland registered, one was demo mode, I tried hosting lan, didn't show up in list, if i quit blockland on the one that was trying to join, opened it up, and queried lan, the server name flashed up for about a quarter of a second, before going again. I also tried joining by IP, it timed out.

So i thought maybe I could try over internet, so i registered blockland on the other computer, with the same key. And hosted an internet server.
My server showed up, but with a dead ping. So i couldn't join it, but i know i can host because someone else joined.

Yeah, so, what am i doing wrong here?

To join a internet server you host, you need to check the lan and join from there. Make sure something isn't blocking it, such as windows firewall, sometimes it does things like that.

Do you have the TCP/IP(or something close to that) instaled for your network adapters on both computers?

Sure Windows Firewall (ha) isn't on and blocking connections?

Also, any programs like Peer Guardian can block connections...

And, how are these computers connect? Via wireless/wired router? Might wanna check the routers security and sharing settings.

Windows firewall isn't running, The only programs that would stop it are AVG, but it isn't.

And the computer are connected through a modem, one is connected via USB, and the other with ethernet.

Get on the main computer with the ethernet connection. Open IE, type this: http://192.168.1.1/

That'll ask you for a username and password, unless your parents changed it, the username is usually blank, and the password is "Admin" without quotes. If there is a username, unless changed, it'll be "Root" without quotes.

Now if you know what you're doing, you can play with the settings, see if that'll fix it, if not change it back to the original setting.

But if you can give me make, model, and version of firmware, I could Google around and see if I can't find any info on the issue, or find GUI screens to see what options it has.

That number (192.168.1.1/) isn't the same for everyone, read the manual for you're router to find out the network ip

LAN games do work. I've done it with blockland 0002, it just isn't working with retail.
