The only people who buy macs are those who are too handicapped to operate a computer.
Not everyone in the world needs to be a technological genius.

its ok to be computer stupid. but thats what mac caters to. its a shame the type of person that refuses to learn modern technology is the same kind of person that follows advertizing and brand lines so blindly. overspending.

Ok, now that just pisses me off.  I have a Mac because I like the UI, and the way it feels, not because I cant run a loving Windows.

A person's intelligence is based on their IQ, not OS.

I got Windows because I want to use it.  It's very small on resources, can look lovey (rain meter, rocketdock, etc.), and works for gaming.
Which Windows are we talking about? Out of every desktop/laptop OS, Windows is probably the worst in performance. This is probably because it's so bloated from all the legacy stuff they still have to support.

I also really wish people would stop comparing the OS with the hardware. If you are going to compare a Mac to a PC you need to compare the hardware possibilities, price, etc. If you are going to compare operating systems, please specifically compare features of each operating system. It's not a hard concept.

Furthermore, Mac's are not "immune" to viruses. Viruses are acquired because of exploits and human error. You are also more likely to get a virus while using Windows because it is widely used. The fact that Mac's don't often have viruses created for them could be a downfall. Malicious software developers often expose holes in security, holes that may otherwise go unnoticed for a long time.

In my opinion, which was probably stated already, the only downfall of a Mac is it's outrageous price.

>"I also really wish people would stop comparing the OS with the hardware."
>"Windows is probably the worst in performance."
Conflicting statements.

Macintosh caters directly to the people who are technologically blind. Yes, they make great media computers, that have great software capable of making great finished products. But they rely solely on people who aren't knowledgeable about computers to make their profits.
They seem to directly relate screen size to cost.

In another thread, I compared the 'top end' '27 inch' iMac and was able to build an equally powered computer on Newegg for under half the price. With the same size monitor. Then you've got to remember, for example, if you're a graphic designer like me, you've still got to buy your Photoshop and CorelDRAW. You could use that extra $1600 you save by getting an equivalent PC on better programs for producing.

With a Macintosh, all you really are getting is a media computer. There aren't really any other defining features to choose it over a PC. It can't game well. So as well as saving money, you've bought a computer that can do more. Is more compatible. Can be upgradable.

All in all, Macs are really good at what they do, but that's all they do. They don't do it so much better that it will justify the extra cost and compromises you have to make.

That isn't comparing the hardware. Software can have poor performance if it's written poorly.

Look how the Apple Macbook compares to others.
